Danske Slagterier (DS), known as the Danish Bacon & Meat Council (DBMC) in English, is the industry organisation for the co-operative slaughterhouses, a number of affiliated companies and organisations.
The main objective of the organisation is to head, co-ordinate and provide services of mutual interest to the trade. Thus DS is part of the co-operative structure which characterizes the pig industry.
DS’ Board consists of 10 members – each slaughterhouse is represented by its chairman, and the other members are appointed according to size and number of killings on a yearly basis.

DS provides a variety of services. A major function is to collect and communicate information internally and externally.
DS’ activities cover the primary pig production, the slaughterhouse process, processing and sales.

Thorough information is vital in order to manifest an organisation’s point of view. For example, when political and legal decisions, which may be of consequence to the industry, are made.
Consequently DS is member of a number of political and specialist bodies where the interests of the pig sector are protected, mostly Danish but also international.
